I Googled “Do what you love and the money will follow”…
I came across a lot of articles and blog posts that say this DOES NOT work.
However, I can tell you from my experience, it works whether you believe it or not.
Any and all actions will consequently lead to other actions.
So it’s not rocket science that if you’re “doing what you love” you’ll be happier. If you’re happier, you’re just plain more productive, you have more energy, more people want to be around you.
It doesn’t matter if doing what you love is taking a bike ride every day, or playing the harp.
If you feed your joy, your passions, your hobbies, the rest of your life – including your job, will benefit.
And often your hobby can generate income in and of itself. If that’s your choice.
I love to bake. Cakes, cookies, candy. You name it, if it’s sweet, I love to make it! I’ve been asked on many occasion if I would bake for a party, or an event. If I wanted to, I’m sure I could create another part time job for myself baking. But for now, I bake to relax and to bring joy AND I share it on Social Media. I get replies – from people you wouldn’t expect. Not friends or family, but business people who enjoy a quick break in their day. And believe me, this helps me stay “top of mind”.
Back to my point. No one could convince me that “do what you love, money will follow” isn’t true.
I share this concept with my friends and colleagues because it’s been such a positive experience for me. And while working for myself has a LOT of challenges, I’m doing what I love and I wouldn’t have it any other way!
What about you? Do you believe this? If so why, if not, why not?
Kathy, I love this blog post – clear, authentic and inspiring. I also agree completely with all you have said. However, in my experience wishing it so does not make it happen. The process of shifting long held beliefs require time and sincere effort mixed with a good dose of magic.
As a business coach I have travelled the path for myself and accompanied many clients, and I highly recommend the journey. Thanks for your great perspective.

Roberta – great input. You’re so right that “wishing” does not make it so. There comes with it the “work” required to make it a reality! You have to believe in yourself and learn a lot of new things to make a business work. I completely agree that a business coach is essential!
Thanks for the reminder that it’s not just about dreaming, it’s also about action.!
